Secure Networks – An Open Source Networking Project In a nutshell, you’ll build a corporate-like network with headquarters and offices on Unix-like OSes and open source platforms, then try to hack its vulnerabilities. . From circuits to endpoints, clustered firewalls, servers included. Network Access Control, in short NAC server, jumpers, and everything else are all built into a Linux OS flavor like openSUSE, AlpineLinux, Debian, Ubuntu, etc., or a Unix-like OS like FreeBSD. We are not so much interested in sellers and brands, but practical ideas.
For example, we dive into Shell commands, TCP/IP and networking basics, and basic network security principles using open source, yet industry-proven. Why a pure Linux-based network? In addition to the fact that Linux rules the world, if you learn secure connections using Linux, Unix, and open source tools, you will feel pretty confident about their corresponding business. For example, if you learn network firewalls using iptables and nftables, you will have no problem with Cisco FirePower, FortiGate, or Juniper firewalls.
