Explanation
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term for the growing number of electronic devices that are not traditional computing devices, but are connected to the Internet to send data, receive instructions or both. There is an amazing variety of things under that umbrella: Internet-connected modern types of traditional appliances such as air conditioners and light bulbs, the only devices that can exist in the world capable of the Internet such as Alexa-style digital assistants; Internet-enabled sensors are transforming industries, healthcare, transportation, distribution centers and agriculture.
The Internet of Things is transforming our physical world into a complex and dynamic system of connected devices like never before. The IoT brings the power of internet, data processing and analytics to the real world of physical objects. For consumers, this means interacting with the global information network without the intervention of a computer and a screen; many of their everyday objects and devices can take cues from that network with minimal human intervention. Simply put, IoT is about connecting machines or, as we refer to it, the old ‘things’. You can think of anything from your breadcrumbs to a security camera, to the internet to transmit the data they collect, track them and enable them to ‘talk’ to each other.
