Complete the Home Network Security Monitoring with Security Onion course. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through the process of setting up a small network (including wired and wireless connectivity) designed to record and analyze all network activity using Security Onion, a free and sophisticated open source network security monitoring server. I’ll give you step-by-step instructions on what hardware you need, where to get it, how to configure it for Security Onion, how to deploy Security Onion, and how to get started using some of Security Onion’s powerful tools. This class covers the following:
- A graphical overview (including a detailed description) of the network architecture;
- Details about the specific hardware required and where it can be purchased inexpensively.
- Hardware settings to achieve the desired network architecture;
- How to prepare the Security Onion software, install it on the hardware, and deploy it on the network;
- Examples of remote administration of Security Onion Server.
- Examples of network analysis using Security Onion’s standard network analysis tools.
