Fundamentals of Data Science: Specialization in Statistical Inference. This program is designed to give the learner a solid foundation in probability theory in preparation for the broader study of statistics. It also introduces the learner to the fundamentals of statistics and statistical theory and provides the learner with the skills needed to perform basic statistical analysis of a dataset in the R programming language. This specialization can be earned as academic credit toward CU Boulder’s Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS) degree offered on the Coursera platform. The MS-DS is an interdisciplinary degree that brings together faculty from the departments of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Science, and other CU Boulder schools. Because admission is merit-based and no application process is required, the MS-DS is ideal for individuals with a broad undergraduate education and/or professional experience in computer science, information science, mathematics, and statistics. Learners practice new probability skills, including basic statistical analysis of datasets by completing exercises in Jupyter Notebooks. In addition, learners test their knowledge by taking benchmark tests during the courses.

Who is this course suitable for?
