Description
Character Animation Bootcamp If you’ve ever tried to animate a character in After Effects, you know how difficult it can be. In this course, you’ll learn core character animation techniques in After Effects. From simple movements to complex scenes, you’ll be confident in your character animation skills by the end of this course. We’ll start things off by creating strong silhouettes and poses, which are the foundation of good character animation. After that you’ll move on to your first big animation challenge: setting up the key poses for the jump. Perfecting these key poses will allow you to easily transition into a solid jump animation next week. Now we’ll move on to the fun part: start animating the jump by “tweening” or adding frames in between, which After Effects does automatically for you.
You’ll get plenty of practice changing the timing and spacing of those key frames in the graph editor, so that the jump looks realistic, like it has weight and mass. Then move on to your next challenge, adapting those key poses for the walk cycle. This week is partly lesson and partly focus time. Start by tweening your ball throw, which requires mastery of demonstrating weight transfer in a character. During the focus week portion, Morgan will give you a quick lesson on how to create your own animation reference, and why it’s important to have this skill as a character animator. Practice testing all of your skills by animating an entire scene with a character. This is a great opportunity to start piecing together the different movements you’ve learned to create an entire performance. We’ll put the finishing touches on the scene you started in Week 6, and then it’s time for your final project! We’ve created a movie trailer with music, VO, character rigs, and additional artwork, giving you everything you need to create a stunning piece of character animation for your portfolio.
