Communication skills for the specialization engineers, build A toolkit of communication skills that will give you the knowledge and confidence to be an effective technical leader. Engineers WHO want To To advance in their careers, engineers must be effective communicators. They must clearly communicate complex ideas and technical project plans. They must also be strong persuaders. Engineers who communicate well are recognized by their superiors and clients. In The In the three-level specialization, you will practice designing and delivering persuasive presentations; you will learn how to communicate across cultures, genders, and generations; how to build your personal brand and leadership presence; and how to conduct effective meetings with global teams. You will learn how to handle difficult conversations and crisis communication; you will also learn writing skills that you can immediately apply in your daily activities. The courses are taught by faculty from the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL).
At The specialization levelEach week, you’ll complete a series of self-assessments that lead to the development of a plan to improve personal communication. In the Oral Communication course, you’ll complete a series of assignments that culminate in a real-life presentation on a topic that’s important to your business or to you personally. In the Interpersonal Communication course, you’ll develop your personal brand pitch and a toolbox of techniques for communicating with different people in different situations. In the Writing course, you’ll improve documents that you distribute to your colleagues, superiors, and clients.
