I’m a Blackmagic Design certified Da Vinci Resolve instructor and have been color correcting professionally for over nine years. During this time I have produced work for brands such as Unilever, Greggs Bakery, TNT Logistics, Joules (a British clothing line), NHS, BBC and Virgin Airlines. And I’m not done yet. I have produced drama and reality work for broadcast and web, as well as feature films for international distribution.
I draw on my experiences in this course because I know what it feels like to have no one to teach you. When I first started grading my film class at uni, there was no teacher who could even teach me how to grade. I spent long nights in the grading suite (I really did miss the sun completely on some winter days) teaching myself how to use Resolve from scratch. It paid off when I was already doing the grading work for the BBC’s Wildlife Unit on a project that became ‘Life Stories’ while I was still studying! But why did it happen? I still believe that if I had found the right exercises earlier, I would be much better off now. When there is no one there to challenge you, bad habits are harder to break! So this course is my attempt to offer that support and training to many people at a very low cost.
