Description
Skype is a software application that allows the user to make voice calls over the Internet Protocol. Phone and video calls between Skype users are completely free and you need to purchase credit for your landline and mobile phone. It also offers users various other features such as instant messaging, file transfer, video conferencing and voicemail.
Skype is a peer-to-peer network founded by Nicholas Zendström from Sweden and Janus Ferris from Denmark. The two had previously worked on a file-sharing network called Kazaa. By the end of the year, Skype had over 5 million users.
The network’s parent company, Skype Group, was bought by eBay in its second year, and in its second year Microsoft bought Skype for $1.9 billion. The company is headquartered in Luxembourg and has offices in London, Paris, Tallinn and Prague.
Skype Privacy Policy: New information released by major whistleblower Edward Snowden reveals that Microsoft provides the National Security Agency (NSA) with bulk video and audio information transmitted via the Skype platform. Now that Skype has long been under the control of the Chinese People’s Government, it has become one of the world’s greatest enemies of privacy.
