PROCESSOR
Two parameters are important for a processor: the number of cores and the clock frequency. If you are doing a linear calculation, the number of cores is the main parameter that determines the speed of the calculation. In non-linear and idiosyncratic calculation, the clock frequency is the determining factor. In addition to the previously mentioned types of computation, design checks also run multi-core. We recommend using an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 with a frequency of at least 2.4 GHz.
MEMORY (RAM)
SCIA Engineer, Solver, and Engineer Report are three separate processes that each require memory to perform their operations. In addition to these processes, Windows (min. 1.5 GB) and all other applications also use some memory. In order not to run out of memory when performing memory-intensive calculations, we recommend stocking your computer with at least 16 GB of RAM.
GRAPHICS CONTROLLER
SCIA Engineer requires a minimum memory of 256 MB and OpenGL support. This means that SCIA can also be run with an integrated graphics card. For some models that are more graphically demanding, the integrated graphics card may not be able to render the structure. For this reason, we recommend using a dedicated GPU (graphics processor). A low to medium GPU should be sufficient.
HARD DISK (HDD)
Any hard drive with 5 GB of free disk space can be used to run SCIA Engineer. This is not to say that the HDD is not important. The read/write speed of the hard disk affects the performance of SCIA Engineer. We recommend an SSD (Solid State Drive) for increased performance. Some of the available SSD types include:
- (m)SATA: cheap, worst performance;
- M.2: the best price/quality ratio;
- PCIe: Expensive, Best Performance.
