Description
FLACS is a comprehensive yet simple tool for 3D modeling of explosion, dispersion and emission of toxic gases and flammable materials. FLACS is actually an industry standard for modeling the explosion and combustion of flammable materials using computational fluid dynamics, with the goal of providing better physical safety in industrial environments. The program is widely used in the oil and gas industry, and increasingly in the nuclear industry, which has a high potential for explosions and spills of dust and toxic substances.
Modeling with the help of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and combining it with 3D graphics capabilities, this software allows accurate prediction of consequences and damages, as well as the ability to predict and display side effects of these consequences, such as density and flooding. And. Is. A better understanding and greater accuracy of the results not only increases the level of security, but also allows designers to use reliable and accurate design options, thereby improving security and effectively reducing the final cost.
Features of FLACS:
- Ability to integrate the explosion and spread of gases and toxins
- Show the consequences of accidents in full 3D
- Manual and efficient editing of geometric structures
- Two-phase modeling
- Study of gas compounds
- Modeling transient events (time dependent)
- Includes measurement of side effects and preventive actions
- Authentic and accurate results
- Different ways to display results (2D, 3D, animated, text output)
- Better understanding of phenomena
- A comprehensive software guide
- And…

Technical requirements
As of May 27, 2016, FLACS v10.5r1 is available. It ships for Microsoft Windows and Linux. FLACS v10.5r1 has been tested on the following platforms (64-bit):
Microsoft Windows:
- Windows 7
- Windows 8.1
- Windows 10
Linux distributions:
- openSUSE 13.1, 13.2, 42.1
- CentOS 5.x, 6.5, 7
- Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04, 16.04
- Fedora 21, 22, 23
- Debian 7, 8
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x and 7.x are expected to be compatible with FLACS v10.5r1 as it is compatible with CentOS 5.x and 7.x respectively.
It is quite possible that FLACS will also work on other Linux distributions or versions. If you encounter any problems installing or using FLACS on a particular distribution or version, please contact flacs@gexcon.com.
Hardware requirements:
- Processor architecture: AMD64 / Intel 64 / x64 (64 bit) supported. Intel IA64 (from Italy) not supported.
- Internal memory: 2 GB or more recommended.
- Free hard disk space: 1 GB for software installation and typically 100 GB for simulation data.
- Graphics Card: A graphics card with an NVIDIA chipset is recommended. Graphics cards using e.g. AMD or Intel chipsets may work, but support and testing is limited to NVIDIA.
Other requirements:
- For Flowvis 5, it is recommended to use the latest graphics driver version available for the target hardware. To use the 3D graph type in Flowvis 5, a graphics card/driver that supports OpenGL version 3.3 or higher is required. If insufficient OpenGL support is detected, Flowvis 5 will still work, but the 3D graphics type may not work. Installing a recent graphics driver may resolve this issue. Check your local hardware website for relevant updates.
