Description
Masterclass Course: How to Research for Academic Writing. This course will teach you the basics of research in five chapters.
The first chapter, How to Do Scientific Research, will help you understand what research is and how to recognize it. You’ll learn about research approaches and think about questions related to scientific theory: What role do the methods I use play in my conclusions? How realistic are the results? Why should you learn how to refute discoveries and how to communicate as a scientist?
The second chapter, How to Create the Basic Elements, focuses on understanding the basic elements of any research project, and therefore any research report, and you will learn how to formulate them yourself.
In Chapter 3, “How to Think Critically,” I introduce you to the tradition of critical thinking that has always been a part of science. You will also return to the basic elements and learn to think critically about them, as well as about everything that we ourselves examine and present as results.
In Chapter Four, “How to Conduct Empirical Research,” you will learn about the important principles of experimental methods used in the social sciences. You will learn about qualitative and quantitative empirical research and how to combine them. Obviously, there is also a lesson to be learned here in how to generate and test hypotheses.
And in Chapter 5, How to Meet Quality Criteria, you will receive information and advice on twelve scientific quality criteria for your own scientific confidence that you should definitely consider when conducting research as well as writing a scientific paper. i.e. review your research report.
These chapters are necessary for everyone who is preparing their first scientific work at the university, as well as for those who plan to write a doctoral dissertation.
