Allen Bradley Micro 850 PLC, Panelview HMI. This course covers wiring and programming the Micro 850 PLC with emphasis on digital inputs and outputs, timers, counters, comparisons and math instructions. The Micro 850 is a new product and is mainly used in small manufacturing processes and control. It is compatible with most Allen Bradley human machine interfaces and variable frequency drives. The first section is a general introduction to PLCs and where they are used and what purposes they serve. The second section focuses on the nomenclature and physical characteristics of a PLC. The third section shows us how to wire inputs and outputs of a PLC and talks a little about sinking and sourcing inputs and outputs.
In the next section, we will program a short switch that controls an output. We will program a start-stop station and give an example of setting it up on the human-machine interface device for monitoring and control. We will introduce the electrical interlock program for forward and reverse motor control. Then we will program timers, counters, compare instructions, and math instructions. The instruction is mainly through videos that include lectures and physical demonstrations. It is advisable that students have some background in electrical circuits. Some background in PLCs would be helpful but not essential. Terms such as inputs, outputs, downloading and uploading, IP addresses, protocol, binary number systems, and addressing are introduced at the instruction level.
