Description
Flight Dynamics with Tensors Course. Flight Dynamics with Tensors Course. Flight dynamics is moving from vectors to tensors, taking advantage of the ever-increasing power of computers to design and analyze complex aerospace systems. Physics is modeled by coordinate system independent tensors. Tensors are then converted to a matrix by introducing coordinate systems and evaluated by one of the matrix computer tools. This course introduces beginners to tensor flight dynamics and requires only a basic knowledge of matrix algebra and differential equations. The principles of tensor algebra are introduced by modeling the geometric relationships of the spent boosters landing on the barge by transforming their coordinates. By including time in the study, the new rotational time derivative allows the formulation of kinematics independent of coordinate systems in a truly stretchable form and its application to pilots in centrifuges and aircraft attitude determination. Point mass trajectories, also called three-degree-of-freedom trajectories, are derived for missiles, hypersonic vehicles, and UAVs. and the full equations and six degrees of freedom lead to the evaluation of the transient responses of missiles and aircraft in the form of a state space. This course is supported by the textbook “Introduction to Tensor Flight Dynamics” published by Instructor on Amazon in 2020. It provides more detailed information on deriving the equations of motion from Newton’s and Euler’s laws and presents many problems arising from aerospace applications, some of which must be solved using MATLAB or other matrix processors.
