Descriptions
In The Future of Our Earth, The Future of Our Earth is about the science of climate change and how to talk about it. You’ll learn from scientists in climatology, oceanography, geosciences, and anthropology who study how climate change affects people, populations, and ways of life. Explore the diverse evidence of human-caused climate change happening today, and consider what that means for the future of our planet. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to understand key scientific principles, identify and address misconceptions, and confidently contribute to conversations about climate change. An important counterpart to observational evidence is computer modeling, an essential tool for studying how the climate system works and how it responds to continued buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. How do we know a model is correct? One way is to consider a past event, plug in the historical climate data, and see if the model successfully represents the event “in hindsight” and with adequate detail.
What you will learn
