Descriptions
Create any Revit family content for any skill level. Autodesk Revit is one of the most widely used Building Information Modeling platforms in the design and construction industry. At the heart of Revit functionality are the components that make up the design. In Revit, these are called “families.” In this course, I’ll share my best practice concepts and principles that can be applied to creating almost any type of Revit family. During the course, I’ll show you the different family types available to ensure you make strategic template planning decisions before you start modeling. We’ll take a look at various additive and subtractive modeling techniques for both static and parametric families. You’ll also learn about the different tools you can use when sketching your component in the Family Editor, as well as methods for testing and quality checking before using it in a project. We’ll explore how materials can be applied to families, taking parameters, shading, fill patterns, assets, and textures into account.
You’ll learn the advantages and disadvantages of ‘nested’ and ‘co-nested’ families, how to control families with calculations using formulas, and how and when to use type catalogs to complement your families. The course is hands-on, which means you are expected to have Autodesk Revit installed so you can follow the practice steps along with the tutor. A basic knowledge of the Autodesk Revit interface is recommended, but no prior knowledge of the Revit Family Editor or family creation is required. The course is aimed at novice or intermediate Revit modelers who have little or no prior knowledge of creating Revit families. For those with an intermediate level of knowledge, the course should give you some best practice workflows, as well as some tips and tricks to increase your productivity. If all of this sounds good, then it’s time to start creating families in Autodesk Revit!
