This training course covers one of the most useful extensions to Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and tabular models in SQL Server Analytical Services. If you have the appropriate version of Excel, we will enable PowerPivot, and if not, we will install SQL Server on your computer, which can do the same. We install the Developer Edition for free, which previously cost $100. After activating PowerPivot or installing SQL Server, we will create our first analysis in Excel or SQL Server in just a few minutes. After only the first few minutes, you will be ahead of anyone who knows nothing about Power Pivot. After this introduction, we will go into detail about PowerPivot or SSAS – basic data and the various options available to you. We will discuss advanced options that most people don’t even know about, but they are very useful. We then develop DAX formulas to further develop the model. Many of the formulas are based on Excel formulas, but there are some additions. By the end, you’ll be an expert user of PowerPivot and SSAS, able to create reliable analyses that can be reviewed immediately, and able to help others analyze their data. This helps with the Data portion of Microsoft Exam 70-779 “Data Analysis and Visualization with Microsoft Excel.” It also helps with the “Designing Tabular BI Semantic Models” and “Developing Queries Using Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)” sections of Microsoft Exam 70-768 “Developing SQL Data Models.”
