Explanation
A-Level Mathematics: Mechanics (Year 1 / AS), This course covers everything from the mechanical part of A-Level AS mathematics, usually covered in the first year of study (Year 12). The course is suitable for all major exam boards, including Edexcel, OCR, AQA and MEI as well as the Cambridge International A-Level course. It’s also a great introduction to mechanics for anyone interested in getting started. The main parts of the course are: Kinematics – the study of motion, where we look at the graphs of motion (displacement-time, velocity-time and acceleration-time), constant acceleration systems (SUVAT equations), projectiles, and how to solve the problems involved. multiple stages of travel, and problems involving multiple moving objects.
Dynamics – the study of forces, where we look at Newton’s laws of motion, forces (and how to model them as vectors), combination of force problems and constant acceleration problems, problems of connected particles, and problems where forces interact change in part, eg. such as when a tie is broken. Variable acceleration – where we look at motion expressed as a function of time, and how to use differentiation and integration to solve mechanical problems. There are also two additional parts at the end. The first is a short video where I show you how to use the Casio ClassWiz calculator to speed up mechanical problems. The second is a four-part video where I go quiz-wise through the mechanical content of sample papers for Edexcel, OCR, AQA and MEI.
