Coursera – VLSI CAD Part I: Logic 2023-9 – Download

Explanation

VLSI CAD Part I: Logic, A modern VLSI chip has a zillion components – logic, control, memory, circuitry, etc. How do we design these complex fragments? Answer: CAD software tools. Learn how to build a modern VLSI chip is a complex and amazing beast: billions of transistors, millions of logic gates deployed for computation and control, large memory blocks, embedded and pre-programmed components. and designed by third parties (known as “intellectual property” or IP blocks). How do people manage to design these complex pieces? Answer: A computer-aided design (CAD) tool takes an abstract description of a chip, and refines it step-wise to a final design.

This class focuses on the main design tools used to create an Integrated Circuit (ASIC) or System on a Chip (SoC) design. Our focus in this first part of the course is on Boolean logic representations that make it possible to generate, and to verify, the gate-level logic of these designs. This is the first step in the design chain, when we move from logic to design. Our goal is for students to understand how the tools themselves work, their basic algorithms and data structures. Topics to be covered will include: Boolean algebra, Boolean computation, logical verification, and logical combination (2-level and multi-level).

What will you learn?

  • reasonable a gate
  • a computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • digital design
  • Boolean Algebra

VLSI CAD Part I_ Logic

Requirements

  • Programming experience (C, C++, Java, Python, etc.) and basic knowledge of data structures and algorithms (especially recursive algorithms). Understanding of basic digital design: Boolean algebra, Kmaps, gates and flip-flops, finite state machine design. linear algebra and calculus at the junior or senior level in engineering. A basic introduction to VLSI at the university level is nice – but not required. We will keep the course unique, but students with VLSI will be able to skip some of the background material in this class.
