Explanation
Statics is typically the first engineering mechanics course taught in undergraduate engineering programs. It is the study of objects either at rest, or moving at constant speed. Statistics is important for developing problem solving skills. It teaches you to think about how forces and bodies act and interact. You learn how to analyze word problems, extract important information and then solve them. One of the most important aspects of this course is the use of free body diagrams. Free body diagrams (FBDs) are used endlessly in many engineering courses, and this course is where you will perfect your FBD drawing skills. The material and thinking methods learned in this class will be of great benefit to you in any other application where you analyze the relationship between objects and use mathematical concepts.
Some of the topics we will cover:
- Vector and scalar operations
- Cartesian leaves
- Line force projection
- Free body diagrams
- 2D and 3D balance of parts and solid bodies
- In minutes all you need to know to get started is a basic understanding of networking.
What will you learn?
- Solve 2-D and 3-D complex body balance problems
- Calculate moments and moments using scalars and vectors in 2-D and 3-D
- Find equivalent systems using forces and moments
- Analyze trusses and structures using the Method of Components and the Method of Composites
- Understand the difference between static and dynamic friction
- Calculate an object’s center of gravity/centroid using integration and mixed body methods
- Determine the body’s moment of activation using interactive and integrated physical methods
- Understand cross product and dot product applications
