This course is not for those without any programming skills however, there is no time to teach the basics of functions/divers and all the weird intermediate/advanced stuff in one course. You should have basic programming skills, but it doesn’t have to be C++. I went from C# to C++ myself pretty well (It was much easier than I expected!), and other languages like Java, Python, etc. And he will do well!
